Established in 1882, peppers martinborough hotel offers historic boutique accommodation in the heart of single of newish zealand’s finest wine growing regions. The impressive heritage building offers sixteen individually designed rooms which open out onto a private verandah or flower-filled courtyard. The hotel retains a sense of history and place that will charm you as soon as you step in the front door - from the battered suitcase of a gentleman traveller at the top of the stairs, to the accommodation"s sloping floors and olden day sketches of local personalities adorning the walls. Diners can enjoy classy and contemporary cuisine and a wide range of excellent wines in the spacious and richly decorated award-winning restaurant, which spills out under the verandah onto the historic village square. The hotel’s famed bar with its collection of memorabilia and historic photos provides comfortable space where locals and guests alike can pull a chair up to the impressive ancient oak table or gather round single of the wine barrels in front of the cosy fire. Martinborough is a charming village of 1300 people, surrounded by 30 vineyards, greatest of which are within walking distance from the hotel. This picturesque wine village is situated in the wairarapa region on the north island, 75 minutes drive east of wellington, and three hours south of hawkes bay.
