Lodge guests get a complimentary castle tour during the opening hours. This is a very distinctive place, with much history, with wonderful antiques throughout. The barker family - who own the castle - live here, and open it daily to visitors. The gardens are also a work of art. Unforgetable experience, a must for visitors to dunedin and this area.Se0405. Low rise colonial farm lodge, set in larnach castle grounds, surrounded by thirty-five acres of gardens. Larnach castle was built from 1871 over a period of 5 years, by 200 builders. A scottish baron, william larnach, wanted to created a bit of scotland in this remote away land.The castle is full of antiques and historical mementos. Rooms are individually decorated in a themed period style, to complement the castle. Each has a fine view of the ocean 1000 feet below. All rooms are ensuite and acquire heater, phone, radio alarm, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and television. Lodge guests can dine in the castle dining room, bookings are essential. Specialties include scottish cuisine, haggis ceremonies, amongst other dishes. petite check-in locality with a lot of character. Located a twenty-minute scenic drive from dunedin city in the grounds of the famous larnach castle. One of the things to see in dunedin locality is the royal albatross yellow-eyed pengiun colony, which is 30 minutes drive. Visitors can enjoy a tour of the castle, or admire the wonderful gardens, which margaret barker has been working hard devloping for the last 30 years.
